STRATEGIES FOR THE COUNSELOR IN HELPING AN EX-OFFENDER MOVE TOWARD EMPLOYABILITY ARE DISCUSSED. A SENSE OF FACING ONE'S ABILITIES, MOTIVATIONS, AND PATTERNS OF SELF-EXPRESSION ARE EMPHASIZED.
Abstract
FINDING A VOCATIONAL IDENTITY THAT IS AN IMPORTANT EXPRESSION OF ONE'S SELF IS CONSIDERED THE MOST STABILIZING INFLUENCE IN THE EX-OFFENDERS REHABILITATION. BEING AN ADVOCATE TO SECURE SERVICES FOR THE CLIENT, WITHOUT DEVELOPING DEPENDENCY; GIVING DATA ABOUT HIMSELF TO THE CLIENT TO HELP HIM WORK ON HIS SELF-IMAGE; AND GUIDANCE TO HELP HIM MOVE TOWARD WHAT HE WANTS TO DO FOR A LIVING ARE SOME OF THE GUIDELINES SUGGESTED FOR COUNSELING.
