This document describes the general regulation of firearms under Wisconsin law.
Abstract
The Wisconsin system of firearm regulation restricts the possession of certain types of firearms and by certain persons and prohibits the improper or unsafe possession or use of firearms. It is a Class E felony for a person to possess a firearm if the person has been convicted of a felony in Wisconsin or another State or has been found not guilty of a felony by reason of mental illness. Wisconsin law prohibits endangering another's safety by the negligent operation or handling of a firearm, operating or going armed with a firearm while under the influence of an intoxicant, intentionally pointing a firearm at or toward another, and discharging a firearm within 100 yards of any building devoted to human occupancy while on the lands of another without the express permission of the owner or occupant.
