This booklet instructs Christians in the biblical mandate to service crime victims, the effects of crime on victims, and how victims can be helped.
Abstract
Both the Old and New Testaments instruct God's people to care for and identify with the oppressed, the powerless, and the wounded. This includes crime victims. The psychological effects of victimization include fear, anger, helplessness, mistrust, mood swings, confusion, and often a religious crisis. Other consequences may be physical harm from the crime, financial loss, and problems on the job and in relationships due to victimization reactions. Victims need social and practical support that can include financial help, reassurance in matters of religious faith, listening, the development of self-help groups, and advocacy for better treatment of victims by police and the courts. 13 suggested resources.
