This description of Wisconsin's model court orientation program for new employees includes an orientation video, checklist, and guidebook.
Abstract
The program is designed to take 3 months to complete, introducing various segments over a 12-week period. The appended checklist is divided into four sections and includes specific topics related to the new employee's job duties. The four sections are general surroundings/introduction (first day to second week); safety, security, and public service (first week to third week); personnel and employment (first week to eighth week); and job duties (eighth week to twelfth week). The orientation guide comprises 12 sections or topical areas a supervisor or manager would develop and update for orientation purposes. The 12 sections are benefits and insurance; courthouse directory; ethics/ordinance policy; job descriptions; legal terms; media information; office policies; organizational chart; records management; security and safety; telephones, faxes, and copiers; and training and related materials. The video is provided to Wisconsin's elected clerks of circuit court to help them develop their own orientation programs. It provides a brief history of the State's court system, describes how the courts are organized, and profiles many of the departments and offices that make up the court system. The video is designed to be used in conjunction with a more localized program in each of the State's 72 counties.
