Abstract
Weed and Seed success stories are presented in the areas of law enforcement, community policing, prevention, neighborhood restoration, reentry, and American Indian/Alaska Native. Highlights of these stories from various programs working to prevent crime and provide safer communities within the Weed and Seed strategy include: (1) the Public Housing Safety Initiative (PHSI) which seeks to improve conditions for low-income housing tenants suffering high rates of violent crime and drug and firearm distribution; (2) the crime reduction strategy, Community Oriented Policing Problem Solving (COPPS) in Athens, GA; (3) the development of a Safe Haven in Buffalo, NY, the Coalition for the Redevelopment of Unified Community Involvement And Leadership (CRUCIAL) Community Center; (4) the launching of the Parent Patrol in Vine City, GA designed to keep children safe and involve their parents in school activities; and (5) the establishment of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) centers. This report, from the Community Capacity Development Office (CCDO), presents and offers the stories of Weed and Seed strategies implemented across the United States that have been effective in crime prevention and community safety.
