RESULTS OF INTERVIEWS WITH PERSONNEL OF AGENCIES HAVING CONTACT WITH 23 CENTERS FOR YOUTH SERVICES WHICH PROVIDE BOTH DIRECT WORK WITH JUVENILES AND COOPERATION WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS.
Abstract
THE CENTER STAFF WORK WITH OTHER SOCIAL AGENCIES HAVING CONTACT WITH YOUTH (SCHOOLS, POLICE, COURTS, PUBLIC ASSISTANCE OFFICES) IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE OPPORTUNTIES FOR YOUTHFUL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT AND TO PREVENT DELINQUENCY. OVER ONE THOUSAND YOUTH ARE SERVED DIRECTLY THROUGH TREATMENT SERVICES AT THE CENTERS EACH YEAR. IN A FOLLOW-UP STUDY OF YOUTH WHO HAD TERMINATED TREATMENT SIX MONTHS PREVIOUSLY, IT WAS LEARNED THAT ONLY 6.8% HAD A SUBSEQUENT POLICE RECORD AFTER TREATMENT AND 11.7% HAD A SUBSEQUENT COURT CONTACT. FROM A LIST OF 230 SOCIAL AGENCY PERSONNEL HAVING HAD CONTACT WITH THE CENTERS DURING THE LAST YEAR, 183 WERE INTERVIEWED. THE INTERVIEWEES WERE ASKED TO EVALUATE THE SERVICES OFFERED BY THE CENTERS: DIRECT SERVICE, CASE DISCUSSION, STAFF TRAINING, PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY PLANNING. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
