THE OBJECTIVES, IMPLEMENTING REQUIREMENTS, AND SUBGRANT FINANCIAL DATA FOR PROGRAMS FUNDED UNDER THE WASHINGTON CRIME CONTROL AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION PLAN CATEGORIES ARE SUMMARIZED.
Abstract
A COMPREHENSIVE CHART IS PROVIDED WHICH SHOWS THE AMOUNT OF MONEY, NUMBER OF PROJECTS, AND PERCENT OF TOTAL BUDGET FOR EACH PROGRAM TYPE UNDER THE VARIOUS FUNDING CATEGORIES: PREVENTION, APPREHENSION, DIVERSION, PROSECUTION, DEFENSE, DISPOSITION, PUNISHMENT/HABILITATION, AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IMPACT. THE BODY OF THE PRESENTATION IS DIVIDED INTO SECTIONS ACCORDING TO MAJOR FUNDING CATEGORIES. EACH FUNDING CATEGORY IS SUBDIVIDED INTO PROGRAM TYPES IN THAT CATEGORY AND EACH PROGRAM TYPE IS DEFINED. THE FUNDING CATEGORY FOR PREVENTION CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM TYPES: PROGRAMS PREVENTING THE COMMISSION OF SPECIFIC CRIMES AND CRIMES AGAINST THE ELDERLY; JUVENILE PREVENTION; YOUTH EMPLOYMENT; AND SUPPLEMENTAL/ALTERNATIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. UNDER THE FUNDING CATEGORY FOR APPREHENSION, THE PROGRAM TYPES CONSIDERED ARE DEVELOPMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS, IMPROVEMENT OF CRIME LABORATORY FACILITIES AND SERVICES, REDUCTION OF SPECIFIC CRIMES AND THE APPREHENSION OF ALLEGED OFFENDER, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT INTELLIGENCE COLLECTION, EVALUATION, STORAGE, AN DISSEMINATION. THE FUNDING CATEGORY FOR DIVERSION INCLUDES PROGRAMS REGARDING TYPES OF PROSECUTOR'S DIVERSION, ALTERNATIVES TO TRADITIONAL JUDICIAL PROCESSING OF AND INSTITUTIONAL CARE OF YOUTH, AND CRISIS INTERVENTION. THE FUNDING CATEGORY FOR PROSECUTION HAS A SINGLE PROGRAM GOAL TO ESTABLISH UNITS AND PROCESS TO INCREASE PROSECUTORIAL EFFECTIVENESS. THE PROGRAM TYPE UNDER THE FUNDING CATEGORY FOR DEFENSE RELATES TO THE ESTABLISHMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF PUBLIC DEFENDER PROJECTS. MANAGEMENT AND OPERATION OF THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM IS THE PROGRAM TYPE CONSIDERED IN THE DISPOSITION FUNDING CATEGORY. THE PUNISHMENT/HABILITATION CATEGORY INCLUDES STATE AND LOCAL PROGRAMS FOR THE EVALUATION AND TREATMENT OF OFFENDERS AND LIVING ENVIRONMENTS. THE SYSTEM IMPACT CATEGORY INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM TYPES: MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT; IMPROVED CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCY RECORDS SYSTEMS; INFORMATION SYSTEMS; STUDIES, ACTION RESEARCH, AND EVALUATION; RESEARCH; AND COMMUNITY-BASED RESOURCES, TREATMENT PROGRAMS, AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES.
