The fellowship program provides time for in-depth analyses that will enhance improved law enforcement performance and policies. All fellowship applicants must be officials or employees of State or local governments or employees of nonprofit criminal justice organizations. Fellows are chosen on the basis of their relevant professional experience, the merit of the proposed research project, and the potential usefulness of the research products. The fellowship provides for reimbursing the fellow's employing agency for up to 100 percent of the fellow's salary and fringe benefits, plus other costs necessitated by the move to Washington and the research project itself. Application procedures are specified.
