This manual describes activities of the Barrett Juvenile Correctional Center and criteria for admission to the program.
Abstract
The manual represents an integration of the Barrett program with the Gateway Foundation Therapeutic Community Orientation and Life Skills curriculum. The Barrett program provides comprehensive services to adjudicated and committed male wards who are experiencing significant life problems related to their criminal behavior and their use of alcohol and other drugs. The program considers protection of public safety, accountability for the juvenile offender and rehabilitative (treatment) services. It provides a multi-disciplinary array of activities to each ward depending on his individual needs and abilities. The manual describes the program philosophy and overview, eligibility criteria and admission procedures, the therapeutic community milieu, program phases, length of stay and release criteria, community living and behavior management, methods of treatment and rehabilitation, case management, staff development activities, and program evaluation.
