This report presents statistical data on the average daily inmate population in Virginia State correctional institutions and the numbers of probationers and parolees in February 2000.
Abstract
The data came from reports developed by the State’s Center for Information Technologies and by Community Corrections. An average of 26,782 State offenders were in Department of Corrections (DOC) institutions in February 2000, an increase of 0.2 percent over the 26,732 of the previous month and a 0.7 percent increase from the average population recorded a year earlier. The average number of out-of-state offenders housed in contract beds was 3,522 in February 2000. The total average daily population in DOC institutions was 30,304 offenders. The total probation and parole caseload of 37,919 in February 2000 included 5,847 active parolees and 32,072 active probationers. The total caseload decreased 0.3 percent from the previous month.
