Activities of the Virginia Criminal Justice Services Commission are reported for the year 1978.
Abstract
The commission is concerned with three major tasks: providing administration and assistance to upgrade criminal justice personnel through training, research, and development; administering and monitoring the training of private security services business personnel; and administering rules regarding the collection and security maintenance of criminal history record information. Mandated training programs run by the commission were expanded by the addition of training for undercover investigative officers and by amendments to the programs for jailers and custodial officers of local criminal justice agencies and for correctional officers. Specialized training programs included a course for first line supervisors, a seminar for campus police, and training in stress awareness. An advisory committee was established to assist the commission in carrying out its mandates on criminal history record information. In this connection, training classes, expungements, purges, and audits are reported. The commission's funding and resources are summarized. Appended are data tables.
