Abstract
Theories for the recent growth in violent acts committed by children include biological, psychological/psychosocial, environmental, and societal causes; all are addressed here. Treatments such as rehabilitation, boot camps, and adult prisons are described, as are prevention methods, including conflict resolution training and mediation. The book includes a chronology of significant events relevant to issues surrounding violent children. There are biographical sketches of individuals who have played or are currently playing key roles in the area of child violence. A separate chapter presents statistical information on the extent of violent acts committed by children, discusses the reasons why children become violent, and various treatment options. There is a directory of private and public organizations involved in treating violent children and trying to prevent children from becoming violent. The annotated bibliography includes popular accounts, primary research, films, and videocassettes. Notes, references, index
