This book guides employers in the development of sound plans to help prevent and manage violent incidents.
Abstract
Angry employees are killing their fellow workers and supervisors at an alarming rate. Additional violence is caused by distraught customers and clients. Given this circumstance, every company should have a Violence Prevention and Management Plan in place. Each business should evaluate its physical security policies and its crisis management policies; a plan for preventing and managing potential violence from employees or outsiders should also be developed. Sound plans include training to identify potential perpetrators and to instruct managers, supervisors, and workers to follow company procedures. Open communication between management and employees should be encouraged. This book provides detailed instructions for handling the aftermath of a violent incident and the ensuing trauma and chaos. The proposed plans are designed to help prevent violent incidents in the workplace and to assist a company, its employees, customers, and clients to return to a healthy and productive workplace if violence occurs.
