This fifth Violence Reduction Network (VRN) Quarterly Newsletter (October - December 2015) presents a descriptive and statistical account of overall VRN activities and the highlights for each of the 10 demonstration sites that received federally supported training and technical assistance through the VRN.
Abstract
The newsletter states that the ultimate goal of the VRN is "to develop and deploy strategic solutions and focused activities that not only have a positive impact on the VRN sites, but can be replicated throughout the country." As VRN enters its second year, it continues to assess the impact of the resources provided to the 10 VRN sites, with attention to transitioning VRN-developed resources to all communities. The VRN is now focusing on the importance of sustaining the progress in the Phase 1 (2014) sites (Camden, NJ; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Oakland/Richmond, CA; and Wilmington, DE) as they transition out of VRN. Phase 2 (2015) sites will begin to integrate resources and initiatives from Phase 1 into their communities. These sites are Compton, CA; Flint, MI; Little Rock, AR; Newark, NJ; and West Memphis, AR. This edition of the newsletter focuses on new strategies introduced by the U.S. Justice Department (DOJ) law enforcement partners and VRN subject-matter experts (SMEs). It also highlights how state-of-the-art technologies have been shared and adapted, as well as how departments have taken cutting-edge investigative practices from one jurisdiction and applied them to their own jurisdiction. VRN cumulative statistics as of December 31, 2015, cover numbers of training hours, technical assistance deliveries, participants, participant ratings, and resource documents. catalogued.
