Abstract
This book contains a selection of journal articles discussing victimology and victimization. The articles were selected to present the many manifestations and arguments that brought the subject of victims back into social research. The book is divided into four parts: the birth of victimology; crime surveys; patterns and representations of victimization; and remedies and conclusions. Victims, initially viewed as mere indices or numbers in improved measures to count crime, have become instrumental in helping to reform the criminal justice and penal systems.
