This fact sheet provides information on how community corrections professionals can enhance their victim notification practices.
Abstract
This fact sheet provides several key recommendations: victims, survivors, and advocates can help pretrial, probation, and parole agencies in identifying the types of information that are most important to victims; victim information and notification processes should reflect and respect the cultural diversity and unique needs of the victim populations present within a specific jurisdiction; victim notification should be delivered with sufficient advance time to allow victims to prepare for an offender's entry or reentry into a community, and agencies should make every reasonable effort to ensure the accuracy of the information provided; and a national automated victim information and notification system should be developed specifically to enforce the mandates of the Interstate Compact for Adult Offender Supervision. 4 figures and 5 resources
