LIMITATIONS OF FIVE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION EXPERIMENTS CONDUCTED IN THE OPEN COMMUNITY AMONG VOLUNTARY JUVENILE SUBJECTS.
Abstract
THE AUTHORS DEFINE A DELINQUENCY PREVENTION EXPERIMENT AS ONE WHICH PROVIDES A SOCIAL SERVICE FOR CHILDREN WHO HAVE NOT BEEN OFFICIALLY ADJUDGED DELINQUENT AND WHO CONSEQUENTLY PARTAKE OF THAT SERVICE FREE FROM OFFICIAL COERCION. UPON EXAMINATION OF FIVE SUCH PROGRAMS, IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE PROVISION OF A PREVENTIVE SERVICE SEEMS NO MORE EFFECTIVE IN REDUCING DELINQUENCY THAN NO SERVICE AT ALL. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
