This handbook aims to promote the comprehensive collection of data on correctional education programs and participants; it explores the use of data in correctional education; provides information on collecting, processing, and reporting such data; and examines the role of data in evaluating correctional education programs.
Abstract
The document is intended as a resource for those who are designing or upgrading a correctional education system. Individual sections focus on the types of data that States and correctional facilities should consider collecting, issues such as system integration and ideal record identifiers to consider when designing or upgrading correctional education data systems, and the different types of reports that can be produced from these systems. The report also describes the components of effective evaluations of correctional education programs, with emphasis on recidivism studies as well as alternative measures. Figures, tables, sample reports, appended additional sample reports, and 10 references
