Juvenile justice practitioners discuss processing issues regarding juvenile offenders and methods to help violent and emotionally disturbed youths.
Abstract
There is a general intake and petition outline with flow charts illustrating this process, as well as an outline of a classification system that probation officers can use to organize and manage their caseloads. Amother outline lists types of neglect and suggests intervention measures, and another notes problems facing inmate juvenile offenders and some solutions. A judge discusses the court's role in investigation and treatment of child abuse and neglect cases, and a psychiatrist explains treatment methods for impulsive adolescents. A public defender suggests that violent youths should not be incarcerated in adult institutions but should be housed in a special juvenile facility or receive alternative treatment. A journal article on restitution is appended. For individual papers on violent juvenile offenders and offender classifications, see NCJ 86799-86800.
