This report assesses States’ implementation of the Children’s Justice Act (CJA).
Abstract
The report discusses State activities, task force recommendations and proposed use of CJA funds in the following areas. (1) Investigation of Child Abuse and Neglect. State initiatives include joint training involving child protective services and law enforcement, training for mandated reporters, investigation protocols, and related medical examinations. It also discusses the use of multidisciplinary teams, development of child advocacy centers and case tracking systems and information and referral centers. (2) Prosecution and Court Reform Activities. These include training for prosecution, judges, and other court personnel; development of Guardian Ad Litem and Court-Appointed Special Advocate programs; and other court reform projects. (3) Special Topics. These include efforts to resolve cross-jurisdictional issues, to review child fatalities, and to address linkages between domestic violence and child abuse and neglect.
