This paper describes effective components of treatment interventions for offenders in substance abuse treatment programs.
Abstract
The study used results from meta-analyses research integration techniques designed to synthesize the research literature and studies on treatment effectiveness. It reviews some of the common misinterpretations in the field and identifies the growing consensus among scholars and practitioners about effective components of treatment interventions for offender populations. The paper proposes to assist drug courts in employing better treatment practices and to provide a context for drug courts to assess treatment interventions and system-features used to ensure better offender outcomes in drug court interventions. Understanding each component is critical to achieving long-term results, specifically reductions in recidivism. The paper also identifies some of the difficulties in delivering effective services while providing an approach for integrating the findings into drug court practices. Notes, tables, references
