This report presents figures and tables detailing the numbers and characteristics of the 1,631 deaths that occurred in Victoria, Australia, from July 1990 through June 1991, as a result of accident, suicide, or homicide.
Abstract
The deaths involved 1,175 males and 456 females. Of these, 924 resulted from accidents, 586 from suicide, 67 from homicide, and 54 from unknown causes. The manner of death included drug overdose, gassing, burns, shooting, hanging, electrocution, suffocation, stabbing, assault, traffic accident, aircraft or boat accident, fall or jump, explosion, and malnutrition. Other tables describe employment status, location at which the unnatural death occurred, the precipitating event, age, month, days between the date of death and date of finding the body, and other factors.
