This kit of materials consists of schedules, background information, program guidelines, and a curriculum synopsis for the program offered by the U.S. Army Military Police School to train civilian State correctional personnel as instructors for a shock incarceration program resembling a boot camp and designed to rehabilitate youthful drug offenders.
Abstract
The 2-week course contains 98 hours of instruction conducted by U.S. Army drill sergeants. The course includes 30 hours of instruction on physical fitness; 26 hours on drill and ceremony; 12 hours on leader development and assessment; 7 hours on professional sensitivity and awareness related to stress management, alcohol and drug abuse, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention; 14 hours on counseling techniques; 3 hours on instructional methods and techniques; and 6 hours on administrative requirements. The training will consist of U.S. Army drill sergeant techniques designed to maintain a constant level of stress, control, and discipline needed to alter the behavior of adolescents. The correctional personnel to be trained must have at least a high school or equivalency diploma and 1 year of experience in corrections.
