This report details the agenda, actions, draft resolutions, and reports of the 13th session of the United Nations (U.N.) Economic and Social Council's Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, held May 11-20, 2004.
Abstract
The first section of the report presents draft resolutions and draft decisions that required action or attention. Among draft resolutions to be recommended for adoption by the U.N. General Assembly were those related to terrorism, assistance to victims of kidnapping, corruption of public officials and institutions, trafficking in human organs, and transnational organized crime. Draft resolutions for adoption by the Economic and Social Council pertain to the forfeiture of criminal proceeds in cases of transnational organized crime, international cooperation in combating identity theft, justice for child victims and witnesses of crime, and money laundering. Discussion themes pertained to crime prevention and criminal justice. Deliberations and actions pertained to the work of the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime, international cooperation in combating transnational crime, international cooperation in preventing and combating terrorism, and the application of U.N. standards in crime prevention and criminal Justice. Other sections of this report pertain to preparations for the 11th U.N. Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, strategic management and program issues, the provisional agenda for the 14th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the adoption of the commission's report on its 13th session, and the organization of the session. 20 appendixes contain financial statements and a list of documents before the Commission at the 13th session.
