The crime data presented in this bulletin are estimates based on Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) index crimes reported for 1990 and 1991 by New York State law enforcement agencies.
Abstract
New York City reported a 4.4-percent decrease and upstate jurisdictions 3.9-percent increase in index offenses; index crimes in the statewide sample decreased 1.7 percent. Robbery is the most frequently occurring violent crime in New York State (54 percent of all violent crimes). Violent crime decreased 0.8 percent statewide and 2.4 percent in New York City. The sampled upstate agencies reported a 7.7-percent increase in violent crime. Property crime decreased 1.9 percent statewide. New York City reported a 5.1-percent decrease in property crime and upstate agencies a 3.5-percent increase. 2 figures and 3 tables
