ADVANTAGES OF THE TRUE BLUE CONTROL TEST, ALSO REFERRED TO AS A STIMULATION TEST, IN DETECTING TRUTHFUL AND DECEPTIVE RESPONSE PATTERNS ON POLYGRAPH CHARTS ARE ENUMERATED.
Abstract
THE TRUE BLUE CONTROL TEST HAS SEVERAL ADVANTAGES. IT LESSENS FEARS OF TRUTHFUL SUBJECTS WHO ARE AFRAID THEIR TRUTHFUL ANSWERS WILL APPEAR AS LIES ON POLYGRAPH CHARTS BECAUSE THEY ARE NERVOUS AND CONVINCES UNTRUTHFUL SUBJECTS THEY WILL BE FOUND OUT IF THEY LIE. THE TEST GIVES UNTRUTHFUL SUBJECTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO DISTORT THEIR CHARTS DURING TESTING, THE IDEA BEING TO ESTABLISH TRUTHFUL-DECEPTIVE PATTERNS. FURTHERMORE, IT PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO OBSERVE WHAT CHANNELS GIVE THE MOST CONSISTENT DECEPTION PATTERN WHEN A SUBJECT LIES AND ASSISTS IN OBTAINING A GOOD DECEPTION RESPONSE WHEN A SUBJECT LIES IN RESPONSE TO A CONTROL OR RELEVANT QUESTION. INFORMATION ON TRUTHFUL PATTERNS IS FURNISHED USING THE TECHNIQUE, AND SUBJECTS ARE WARNED THAT COUNTERMEASURES DO NOT WORK EVEN ON LITTLE LIES. MATERIALS NEEDED FOR TEST ADMINISTRATION ARE IDENTIFIED, AND THE ADVANTAGEOUS POSSIBILITY OF AN 'ASSOCIATION FEAR FACTOR' APPEARING IN THE TEST IS DISCUSSED. (DEP)
