This instructor's manual presents curriculum content, objectives, teaching suggestions, and participant materials designed to help police and juvenile justice staff relate to persons from different cultural backgrounds.
Abstract
The four modules focus on why training in cultural diversity is important, the nature and significance of cultural differences, how to communicate with persons from different cultural backgrounds, and the implications of cross-cultural communication for police and juvenile justice personnel. The word-for-word format will assist new trainers who may need help in expanding on the subject matter. Experienced trainers can follow the outline of ideas presented. They can also select topic areas that are pertinent to their training needs. Each module has a cover sheet that addresses objectives, evaluation techniques, methods, and the materials needed for delivering the training. Each module has its own sections for handouts, overhead transparencies, and supplementary readings. Each module also contains exercises and alternative exercises to provide the trainer with a variety of options to facilitate achieving learning objectives. The modules contain glossaries of terms relevant to the information presented. The appendixes contain four sections personalized for law enforcement, juvenile courts, juvenile institutional workers, and juvenile community program workers.
