This report provides a summary of arrests for firearm-related crimes in Delaware from 2000 to 2006.
Abstract
The number of firearm-related arrests increased in Delaware from a low of 180 in 2000 (third quarter reporting period) to a high of 277 in 2006 (first quarter reporting period), an increase of 54 percent. The total number of firearm related arrests in 2006 was 1,013. The trend indicates that there are about 4 more firearm related arrests per quarter or 16 per year. Serious illegal firearm crimes tend to be a crime of youth, with about 59 percent of the arrests being for persons under 25 years old. Although juveniles are prohibited from possessing a firearm except in limited situations, such as hunting, most of their firearm related arrests involve the commission of a felony; this is the same for adults. This paper, prepared by the Delaware Statistical Analysis Center, reports on the most serious firearm crimes and arrests in Delaware for the time period 2000 to 2006. Table and charts
