Techniques for dealing with students with behavior disorders are explored.
Abstract
Presented in story form, this book focuses on students who have behavior disorders. Anecdotal sections represent typical events in a special education class for students with behavior disorders. The story is meant to be an illustration of the challenges students with behavior problems and their teachers encounter. The interventions described are designed to help teachers remain in control of the classroom and themselves. The strategies provided are examples of techniques used successfully in a public school setting. Major topics covered are classroom atmosphere, scheduling, behavior management, integrating individual needs with group instruction, and techniques for dealing with changes. Ten appendixes contain sample lesson plan forms, worksheets, progress charts, notes to aides, notes to parents, a decisionmaking sheet, instructional games, organizational projects for students, interventions, and quick-reference checklists for intervention strategies. A list of reference materials available for purchase from the Council for Exceptional Children is provided.
