This guide and its four accompanying videos present an anger management program designed to help people let go of negative emotions and embrace positive emotions.
Abstract
This anger management program, entitled Tough Choices, incorporates as one of its main goals the desire to change. In order to clear out negative emotions and inject positive emotions in their place, a person must have the willingness to change. The curriculum presented in this program has four components: (1) awareness that current emotions are not working and the willingness to change; (2) deleting negative emotions; (3) balancing the mind and body through healthy lifestyle choices; and (4) re-programming positive emotions by building personal power. The four accompanying videos correspond to each segment of the program. A CD-ROM is included that offers relaxation exercises. The program is designed to be interactive, with the introduction and each of the four segments containing lessons and worksheets for participant interaction. The program is also designed to be flexible and work within a demanding schedule; it may be completed very quickly or drawn out over a 6-month period. Tips are offered for running group class meetings, but the course may also be completed on a solitary basis. Generally, however, the course is set up to include a leader with a number of participants. Suggested ongoing activities include relaxation activities learned throughout the course, keeping a monthly or daily log in which participants list their frustrations and their accomplishments, and keeping a journal where ideas, thoughts, and feelings may be expressed. Introductory activities are offered that focus on building the desire to change. Each of the four sections is divided accordingly in the three-ring binder, with cues on when to show the video and activities to engage in at each stage of the program. Also included in the packet is a brochure of the program and contact information. Appendix
