The use of decision worksheets in training individuals to employ better personal decision-making strategies was examined.
Abstract
Decision worksheets emerged as a promising approach to training decision-making skills related to alcohol, and persuasive essays offered promise for evaluating and extending the usage of decision worksheets. An experimental group of 22 students and a control group of 20 students enrolled at Texas Christian University read decision-making scenarios related to alcohol usage, rated a given list of possible alternatives, and wrote a persuasive essay in defense of their ratings. The experimental group was given the same written scenario with a decision worksheet related to the scenario as a supplement. Mutivariate analyses showed that the experimental group had higher mean scores than the control group on measures of "overall goodness;" intensity; and inclusion of elements of feasibility, costs, and benefits. 11 references and 2 appendixes
