FINAL REPORT ON A PHILADELPHIA PROJECT TO DECREASE THE REARREST RATES OF FEMALE JUVENILE OFFENDERS BY PROVIDING COUNSELING SERVICES TO SUPPLEMENT PROBATION SUPERVISION.
Abstract
IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE PROJECT GOALS, TEEN-AID VOLUNTEERS MET FOR AT LEAST THREE MONTHS WITH GIRLS IN THE PROJECT. THE EVALUATION METHODOLOGY INVOLVED COMPARISON OF REARREST RATES FOR TEEN-AID AND PROBATION ONLY GIRLS, AS WELL AS STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP OF SUCH FACTORS AS OFFENDER'S AGE, NATURE OF OFFENSES, AND TEEN-AID SPONSOR CHARACTERISTICS TO REARREST RATES. THE RESULTS OF THE PROJECT REVEALED NO OVERALL DIFFERENCE IN REARREST RATES FOR THE TWO GROUPS. REARRESTS OF TEEN-AID GIRLS WERE FOUND TO BE IN LESS SERIOUS OFFENSE CATEGORIES.
