Abstract
A "Faculty Checklist" highlights important steps for faculty in teaching about criminal victimizations. It contains guidance on such issues as setting the class tone for discussions of criminal victimization, framing material, and preparing for and responding to victimization disclosures from students. A section on "Guidelines for Faculty" contains guidelines designed to provide support to college and university faculty in teaching about criminal victimization. The guidelines focus on steps faculty can take to create a supportive learning environment for students, especially those who have been victims of crime. A section on "Resources for Crime Victims" lists and provides website addresses for a number of national, state, and local resources for crime-victim support. The section on "Faculty Self-Assessment" presents questions that enable faculty to engage in self-assessment as they prepare to teach course content on crime victims. Other sections provide handouts for students that address an overview of victimization, the costs of crime, and the mental health impact of crime. The report concludes with a listing of supplemental literature on the extent and nature of criminal victimization.
