Abstract
Chapter 1 focuses on crime in a Chicago precinct, emphasizing the human aspect of crime typically encountered by police in their daily patrols. Chapter 2 presents a statistical account of various types of crimes, and Chapter 3, their economic impact. Chapter 4 provides a look at factors and underlying conditions that produce varying patterns of crime in different urban areas throughout the country; Chapter 5, characteristics of offenders and victims; and Chapter 6, public attitudes toward crime and law enforcement. Chapters 7, 8, and 9 focus on professional crime, white collar crime, and riots; and Chapter 10 outlines the need, and sets forth a proposal for national criminal justice statistics resources. 7 tables, 6 appendixes, index
