This essay examines characteristics and traits of drug abusers and reasons why people become addicted to illegal drugs and alcohol.
Abstract
Drawing on a spiritual perspective, the author contends that illegal drugs and alcohol are used and abused by cowards, by people who are tyrants of society and their own families, and that normal people will not tolerate drug abuse and alcoholism. He emphasizes the power of choice and the importance of intense desire in wanting to stop drug abuse. Further, he does not view drug abuse and alcoholism as a disease and questions the value of a strictly psychological explanation of addiction. Drug abuse is discussed as a habit, one that can be broken with the right mindset and spiritual strength.
