The study investigated what teachers thought concerning the relationships between school and police in terms of delinquency activities.
Abstract
By means of random sampling, 202 public secondary schools in the Tokyo metropolitan area were chosen. Principals or the guidance counselors were asked to fill out a questionnaire. It was observed that meetings were held regularly between public secondary schools and the competent police authorities concerned; teachers of the schools seemed to find those meetings useful in treating juvenile delinquents. Teachers felt that it would be better if the police could inform them more of the juveniles under the police guidance. While treating the juvenile delinquents in the school, teachers felt that family members of the juveniles were not as cooperative as they expected and that there should be more suitable ways of treating juvenile delinquents in the school.
