Abstract
The program has three components. The teacher modeling component involves the training of teachers and other staff to use conflict resolution for a variety of disputes and to demonstrate the importance of problemsolving and communication skills by applying them throughout the school. The staff training lasts from one-half to a full day. The mediation component involves training selected staff and students in the mediation process and the techniques for becoming third-party facilitators who assist staff or students in resolving conflicts. This training requires 12 hours. The curriculum component is designed to enhance acceptance and understanding of the student mediation program among all students. The manual details the seven steps involved in developing and implementing a mediation program and presents a training outline and 24 activities for trainees. Appended lists of reference materials and national organizations and agencies that can serve as resources
