Abstract
This report presents methodology and findings of a survey gauging the levels of stress and burnout for individual officers, and the implications for themselves and the organizations and citizens they serve. Measured were the physical manifestations of stress, the exhaustion of physical or emotional strength resulting from prolonged stress, and maintenance of healthy lifestyles. Because of the inclusion of small agencies in this research, practical implications can assist agencies of all sizes in developing solutions to help officers cope with the rigors of the policing profession.
