This manual provides valuable information for individuals and organizations planning to promote, maintain, develop, and expand Parents Anonymous programs in their communities.
Abstract
The manual contains the results of an extensive documentation of "best practices" for implementing Parents Anonymous programs in diverse communities using strategies that respect and respond to the unique strengths and needs of individual settings. While the primary focus of the manual is on cultural and ethnic diversity, the term "diversity" is used in a broad context that encompasses ethnic, gender, socioeconomic, and geographic diversity. The first section of the manual presents an overview and background information on Parents Anonymous activities. The second section discusses the history of Parents Anonymous and research findings. This section is primarily designed to support public education, training, outreach, fund-raising, and volunteer recruitment activities. The third section provides a framework for joining in partnership with communities, while the fourth section includes the best practices. The fifth section describes examples of successful Parents Anonymous programs in Native American and Hispanic communities. The final sections provide supplemental information on Parents Anonymous and culturally diverse practices.
