Abstract
The format consists of conversations between the children and two friends, Hoop and Hoopie, regarding school bus safety. Safety tips on waiting for the bus include allowing time to walk to the bus stop rather than having to run, obeying traffic signs while walking to the bus stop, dressing properly for the weather, not playing or standing in the street, not letting a stranger pick up children, and having a flashlight or bright-colored clothing if it is dark. Safety advice on boarding the bus consists of not rushing to get on the bus, forming a single file while boarding, using the hand rails, finding a seat and staying in it, not disturbing the bus driver, and not trying to open the doors. Safety procedures for leaving the bus include being sure the bus has stopped, only leaving the bus at the regular stop, not letting strangers pick children up between home and the bus stop, and being careful when crossing streets after leaving the bus. Other advice while riding the bus covers not running up and down bus aisles, not shouting, and not throwing objects on the bus.
