THIS REPORT IS A REVIEW OF THE ORGANIZATION OF THE STEVENS POINT (WI) POLICE DEPARTMENT AS WELL AS THE FUNCTIONS ASSIGNED TO JOB POSITIONS IN THE ORGANIZATIONAL HIERARCHY.
Abstract
THE CONSULTANT CONDUCTED AN ON-SITE VISIT ON AUGUST 23-24, 1973 TO EXAMINE THE STRUCTURE OF THE 42-PERSON STAFF OF THE STEVENS POINT DEPARTMENT. HE FOUND THAT THE 35 SWORN AND 7 NONSWORN PERSONNEL WERE AT THAT TIME OPERATING UNDER A FUNCTIONAL ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE WHICH DIFFERED FROM THE FORMAL ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE IN THAT BUREAU AND SHIFT COMMANDERS HAD 2 IMMEDIATE SUPERVISORS INSTEAD OF 1. RECOMMENDED COURSES OF ACTION INCLUDE A MAJOR SHIFTING OF FUNCTIONS AMONG MANAGEMENT PERSONNEL AND A MINOR STRUCTURAL REORGANIZATION.
