The report was developed from computer printout information to assist managers and supervisors of the California Department of Youth Authority in identifying the areas which need attention regarding equal employment opportunity for women.
Abstract
A total of 54 classifications which have been identified as being deficient in female representation are specified. These classifications include the positions of head group supervisor, vocational instructor, culinary arts, and youth authority administrator I. Although steady improvement is being made in many classes, particular recruitment emphasis should be given to the group supervisor series, the parole agent series, senior youth counselor positions, and nonjourney trades. With regard to changes identified by branch or worksite, the planning, research, evaluation, and development branches increased their representation of females in specified classifications by 22.2 percent. In the executive office, the overall representation of females decreased by 5.1 percent. In prevention and community corrections areas, the representation increased by 2.4 percent. Minority females as a total group have achieved or exceeded parity in the following categories; supervising technical, food services, janitorial, and teaching paraprofessional. Parity for females is 38.1 percent for classifications overall. Appendix and several tables are provided.
