Departments of Criminal Justice at 516 colleges were surveyed as to whether the college requires statistics and which statistical techniques they would recommend including in a one-semester course on statistics.
Abstract
The replies to these questions on college statistics requirements were cross-tabulated with background variables of the college such as highest degree offered, whether the undergraduate program is a 2-year or 4-year program, whether there is a graduate program in criminal justice, and the size of the college. None of the cross-tabulations were found to be significant. The recommended statistical techniques are listed in two groups -- techniques that three-fourths of the respondents agreed should be required and techniques agreed upon by one-half of the respondents.
