Abstract
The 3,835 releases in 1990 constituted a 3-percent increase over 1989 releases and a 27-percent increase over 1986 releases. The number of males released during 1990 increased by 6 percent from 1989, and the number of females released during 1990 decreased by 6 percent from 1989. Fifty-seven percent of all releases were by parole, and 43 percent were by good conduct discharge or sentence expiration. Fifty-three percent were released from maximum-security or medium-security facilities, and 47 percent were released from lower security facilities. Many of the releases from secure facilities were females who were serving county sentences or male parole violators. The average time served was 50.9 months for individuals incarcerated in Cedar Junction, 24.3 months for individuals serving Concord sentences, and 7 months for individuals serving Framingham sentences.
