This 1992 report of New York State's Anti-Drug Abuse Council describes 1992 achievements and outlines components of the 1993 strategy.
Abstract
In 1992, the Council consolidated the State drug abuse and alcoholism services agencies into a single Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. This agency now oversees the largest treatment and prevention system in the Nation. The Council has improved and expanded the drug and alcohol treatment system and now serves over 20,000 more people each day. Council efforts have also addressed education, prevention, and early intervention. In 1993, Council efforts will reflect the following themes: drug treatment works; prevention must begin with youth; local police agencies require sustained support; government and community cooperation is essential; and knowledge is the foundation for effective public policy. The report concludes with an interagency research agenda.
