The State Justice Institute is authorized by Federal law to award grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts to State and local courts, nonprofit organizations, and others for the purpose of improving the administration of justice in the State courts. Approximately $11-12 million will be dispensed in fiscal year 1992.
Abstract
These guidelines provide recommendations to grant writers concerning the preparation of concept papers and applications. Authorized program areas that lie under the scope of this program include education and training programs, research on alternative means of using personnel in court decisionmaking activities, support for State court planning, collection of statistical data, studies of court rules and procedures, and support for programs to increase court responsiveness to citizen needs. Some special interest program categories include methods of judicial selection, education and training for judges and other key court personnel, technical assistance, and conferences. The guidelines cover definitions, eligibility requirements, types of projects, and amounts of awards. Requirements for concept paper submission and applications for new projects are outlined. The application review procedures are discussed as are renewal funding procedures, compliance requirements, financial requirements, and grant adjustments. 5 appendixes
