This report presents offense and arrest statistics for Index Crimes reported in Hawaii for January-June 1993.
Abstract
Tables show the number of reported Index Offenses, the value of property stolen and recovered, and the clearance rate for all offenses statewide and by county for January- June 1993 and the same period in 1992. Other tables show the number of juvenile and adult arrests statewide and by county for January-June 1993 and the same period in 1992, along with the percentage of change for the two periods. In the first 6 months of 1993, the number of reported violent crimes (murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) decreased 3.4 percent compared to the same period in 1992, but the number has increased 17.5 percent over the past 10 years. The number of reported property crimes (burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) increased 3.7 percent compared to 1992 and 24.4 percent over a 10-year period. Total reported Index Crimes increased 3.4 percent compared to the first 6 months of 1992 and 24.1 percent over the past 10 years. Arrests of juveniles in the first half of 1993 declined 5.7 percent compared to the first half of 1992. Juvenile arrest fell 14.4 percent for violent crimes, 10.9 percent for property crimes, and 13.8 percent for drug- related crimes. Statewide, police arrested 9.7 percent fewer adults during the first 6 months of 1993 than during the same period in 1992. The number of adults arrested declined 9.1 percent for violent crimes, increased 1.1 percent for property crimes, decreased 20.1 percent for drug-related offenses, and fell 19.8 percent for drunk driving. 4 tables
