This report gives an overview of the Alaskan Violent Crimes Compensation Board as it has evolved from its origin in 1972.
Abstract
It is designed to alleviate financial hardships caused by crime-related medical expenses or loss of income sustained by innocent victims of violent crimes. Modifications to the original law are discussed, and an outline of how claims are processed is presented. Included in this report are a list of all the claims filed from July 1, 1988 through June 30, 1989, and their disposition. Information is given on the crime, how the determination was made as to whether the claim was awarded or denied, and the amount of compensation.
