After presenting the code of ethics for Texas adult probation officers, this manual specifies standards in the areas of administration, probation officers, supervision, caseloads, programs, facilities, equipment, fiscal, waiver to standards, objectives, intensive supervision probation, and restitution centers, as well as rules for fund distribution.
Abstract
Standards for probation administration cover such areas as public protection, community education, professional competence, job description, and entry-level salary, while the standards for probation officers deal with eligibility, training, professional membership, and continuing education. Supervision standards focus on such concerns as the presentence investigation report, sentencing, the initial interview, case records, and probation violations. Caseload, the case classification system, the case supervision plan, and indirect supervision are among the areas addressed in standards for caseloads, and community resources, referral procedures, volunteers, and community service restitution are some of the subjects covered in standards for programs. Facilities standards deal with types of facilities and funding for facilities, while fiscal standards address fee parameters and financial recordkeeping. Procedures for fund distribution focus on per capita funding, program funding, and the apportionment of the judicial district adult probation fund surplus.
