Federal, State, and local law enforcement officials met with a House of Representatives select committee to discuss ways to improve interagency communication and coordination in interdicting drugs in south Florida.
Abstract
In the 1-day meeting, participants recounted experiences in drug interdiction and exchanged views on their methods, problems, and successes. The conferees developed three recommendations. First, a formal liaison structure for Federal/State and local enforcement agencies in Florida should be considered to enhance coordination and cooperation in narcotics enforcement. This structure could be a coordinating committee to identify and solve problems. Second, if such a formal structure is established, it should give top priority to examining how narcotics intelligence and information can be best shared among Federal/State and local enforcement agencies. Third, the establishment of a Federal/State and local narcotics enforcement resource pool in south Florida or for the entire State should be explored as a means of making resources available to local law enforcement on an as-needed-and-available basis. Four statements and a list of participants are provided.
